More than half of United States residents over the age of 75 have some hearing loss. Treatment options vary depending on the degree and type of hearing loss, age of onset, and individual lifestyle needs.

Symptoms of Hearing loss

Types of Hearing Loss

  • The type of hearing loss one has depends on what part of the ear is damaged.

  • There are three basic types of hearing loss; sensorineural, mixed, and conductive.

  • Some types of hearing loss are temporary and some are permanent.

Causes of Hearing Loss

  • Hearing loss can be acquired at birth or caused at any time after birth.

  • Acquired hearing loss can be caused by ear infections, loud noises, medications, and much more.

  • People with hearing loss may be more likely to withdraw from social situations, which can lead to depression and other risk factors for dementia.
